The Ulster Historical Foundation is a cross-community educational charity (XN48460) which seeks to expand interest in and awareness of the history and genealogy of Ireland and its people. Its activities cover the nine counties of the province of Ulster, not just Northern Ireland, and it has strong overseas connections in particular with USA, Australia, Canada and New Zealand.
What does the Foundation do?
The Foundation was founded in 1956 to promote a positive image of Ulster and to develop and strengthen links with the Irish diaspora. We publish high quality publications; explore aspects of Irish history; provide an expert genealogical service and heritage consultancy, and digitize vital records by maintaining a membership association (the Guild) which brings people of Irish ancestry together. We also provide a learning environment where local historians and genealogists can gain knowledge and insights into the wealth of historical resources. We host conferences at home and overseas and through our websites, including www.ancestryireland.com and www.historyfromheadstones.com
How can you help?
The Foundation does not receive a grant from Government, and we need help to continue, and if possible, to expand our work. If you believe in the aims and objectives of the Foundation you may wish to support our work by making a contribution. We welcome donations of any size and acknowledge all our donors. If you live within the United Kingdom you might wish to Gift Aid your donation which will enable the Foundation to benefit from tax advantages given to Gift Aid donations by the Inland Revenue.
Join with others who support our work.
We receive occasional gestures of support in the form of donations of money and materials. We pay tribute here to our major benefactor, the late Ms Elizabeth Beam, of Virginia, USA, who believed strongly in the Foundation and made a magnificent gesture to the Foundation in her will. Her generosity will be instrumental in the development of the Foundation in the next 3–5 years.
