This was never common in Ireland, even during the Famine and the only case, recorded on a gravestone in Downpatrick, occurred at Kasauli, India.

In memory of George Scott Tate, M D, Surgeon, army medical staff, who died of enteric fever at Kasauli, Punjaub, India, on the 8th of July 1889 aged 26 years This memorial tablet and the monument over his grave in the Kasauli cemetery have been erected in loving memory by his brother officers Thy will be done.
