Online searches

Welcome to the History from Headstones search facility. Here you will be able to search through our online databases covering over 1,200 graveyards and over 60,000 digitised gravestone inscriptions. We offer four options for those wishing to search through these databases:

	Graveyard index (a list of over 1200 graveyards throughout Ulster)
	Themes (you can search on a specific theme e.g. lost at sea, hanged, infant death etc. the search returning the complete inscription record)
	Free inscription search (you can search the actual inscription records for a number of featured graveyards throughout Ulster and view the full inscription). These are records for those cemeteries featured in the case studies and those featured in the themes section of the site.
	Full inscription search. You can search the complete inscription database but you can only view the full inscription if you have available credits.

Note: members of the Ulster Genealogical and Historical Guild (the membership association of the Ulster Historical Foundation) now have unlimited access to the database of inscriptions via the Member's Area at www.ancestryireland.com. Click here to find out more.

Our collection of gravestone inscriptions covers the majority of graveyards in Northern Ireland. However, we do not hold the inscriptions for every single graveyard in Northern Ireland. Generally, our inscriptions are pre-1900.
